Short description
checklist More Details comment Description manage_accounts Instructor Info info FAQ program overview This is a special Cone 10 Soda Club Firing. This means that all work and glazes / slips used in the firing must be rated for Cone 10. Because of the nature of this firing, it will take longer to fire the kiln than it does to fire Cone 5. Please be aware that the time the team is introducing soda into the kiln is subject to change and will be dependent on how the firing progresses. The “Julia” Soda Firing Club is designed for folks looking for longterm use with our Soda Kiln, Julia. The club is led by Studio Monitors, and a Studio Technician but involves no formal instruction in soda firing processes. Without a formalized instructor, our Soda Club offers a more financially accessible way of having work soda-fired, without the need to retake our Intro to Soda Firing workshop courses. The Soda Club will run firings monthly or as often as desired and needed depending on participant interest. Unlike our Soda Firing Workshops, club firings will include no instruction on wadding, slips, glazes, or any lectures on the subject of soda firing. As such, participants must feel comfortable with the safety and care of the equipment, as well as loading, firing, and maintenance procedures surrounding the firing process. Each participant gets 1 cubic foot of firing space. (Tip; Make sure all your pots fit approximately into a milk crate which is 1 cubic foot of space). This firing will be chosen by the group to be either oxidation or reduction, and fired to cone 10 with sprayed soda at the end. Prerequisites to Enroll in Soda Firing Club Must have taken at least one, Intro to Mid-Range Soda Firing Workshop Be well versed in protocols for loading the soda kiln, kiln safety, equipment and operating safety, and be willing and able to be unsupervised with the kiln during loading, unloading, and post firing cleaning of the kiln. Must have pre-approval from the Director of Ceramics instructor Overview Daniel Clauson Daniel is a Queer and Trans Artist focusing mostly in ceramics. Dan utilizes their past experiences of gender dysphoria, relationships, and ‘home’ to influence their work. Connecting contradicting ideas of love and pain, trauma and acceptance, intimacy and ambiguity. From the University of Washington, Daniel received a Bachelors in Art in the 3D4M department, as well as a minor in Art History. Daniel has attended both the University of Colorado (Boulder) and the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) as a Post Baccalaureate in ceramics.
